Our Mission

We have a vision to create a thriving Gallatin County that is drug-responsible and focuses on the health and happiness of our residents.  Our mission is to partner with community members to reduce and prevent substance use among youth, their families, and future generations.  We want to create an environment that facilitates positive mental health by provided resources, training, and support to our community.

What We Do

OUTREACH EVENTS

Champions joins in with our community to attend community events. In the past we have attended the community annual Peony Festival, River Days in Warsaw, Readi-Fest and others. Stop by our booth at the next community event and say hi!!

COMMUNITY EDUCATION

Champions strives to work together with our community and provide the education needed to positively impact the community we work with. Champions has had several Town Hall style meetings to help educate our community. Topics discussed at past town halls include heroin addiction, substance use trend in NKY, and parent training to help students who may be struggling with a substance. In the future Champions will have more trainings to include promoting positive mental health throughout our community.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

Champions believes that prevention is the key for stopping future substance use in our community. Champions teams up with our local school district to get information in the hands of our youth to help prevent future substance use. Champions helps with funding for the district substance abuse curriculum, Lifeskills Training. Lifeskills training is an evidence-based program to help prevent substance abuse as well as helps promote positive mental health with our students. Champions also teams up with our school district for “Kindness Week”. A week dedicated to promoting kindness in our schools and community!

MONITOR LEGISLATION TO PREVENT YOUTH AND FAMILY SUBSTANCE USE

Champions works with other area coalitions to stay in the know on all legislation that may have an impact on our communities and state at large. Recently the legalization of THC throughout the United States has been a huge topic. We continue to monitor how Kentucky is responding to this evolving matter and continuously work to help keep our youth safe!

PARTNER WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES TO PROMOTE A HEALTHY GALLATIN COUNTY

Champions partners with Local Businesses in several different ways to promote a health Gallatin County. We have provided plaques to recognize local businesses that choose to be smoke free. We have worked with Dormans to help provide substance abuse/Mental health counseling to its contributors free-of-charge to both Dormans as well as the contributors. Champions is continuously working to help promote a positive relationship with our local business community!

ASSESSMENTS & SURVEYS

Through collaboration with our community partners, such as the Three Rivers District Health Department and NorthKey, Champions gathers data about trends in youth substance use and areas of need.  This information is combined with assessment data collected through the Kentucky Incentives for Prevention (KIP) in order to help Champions focus our efforts for outreach and prevention programs.

PARENT EDUCATION

Champions provides information to parents and families regarding current substance use trends, potential health and safety threats, and ways to encourage social-emotional development of our youth.  We host events throughout the year and frequently distribute flyers, posters, and other materials.
